 nology (ICN2) we are delighted to invite you to our jointly organised Na
 noSeminars in Medicine & Health Lecture Series. \n\nOur speaker\, Prof. 
 Avi Schroeder will be giving a seminar about Barcoded Nanoparticles for 
 Precision Cancer Medicine. Prof Avi Schroeder is a tenured Associate Pro
 fessor of Chemical Engineering at the Technion – Israel Institute of Tec
 hnology\, where he heads the Laboratory for Targeted Drug Delivery and P
 ersonalized Medicine Technologies (https://www.schroederlab.com/ ). \n\n
 Dr. Schroeder conducted his Postdoctoral studies at the Massachusetts In
 stitute of Technology\, and his PhD jointly at the Hebrew and Ben Gurion
  Universities. Avi is the recipient of more than 30 national and interna
 tional awards\, including named a KAVLI Fellow\, the Intel Nanotechnolog
 y-\, TEVA Pharmaceuticals-\, and the Wolf Foundation Krill Awards. \n\nA
 vi is the author of above 50-research papers inventor of 19 patents and 
 co-founder of multiple startup companies based on these discoveries. Sch
 roeder is a member of Israel Young National Academy of Sciences\, Israel
 ’s National Council for Civilian Research and Development\, and the Pres
 ident of the Israel Institute of Chemical Engineers. \n\n\n\nAbstract: \
 n\nMedicine is taking its first steps towards patient-specific cancer ca
 re. Nanoparticles have many potential benefits for treating cancer\, inc
 luding the ability to transport complex molecular cargoes including siRN
 A and protein\, as well as targeting to specific cell populations. The t
 alk will discuss ‘barcoded nanoparticles’ that target sites of cancer wh
 ere they perform a programmed therapeutic task. Specifically\, liposomes
  that diagnose the tumor and metastasis for their sensitivity to differe
 nt medications\, providing patient-specific drug activity information th
 at can be used to improve the medication choice. The talk will also desc
 ribe how liposomes can be used for degrading the pancreatic stroma to al
 low subsequent drug penetration into pancreatic adenocarcinoma\, and how
  nanoparticle’ biodistribution and anti-cancer efficacy is impacted by p
 atient’ sex and more specifically\, the menstrual cycle. The evolution o
 f drug delivery systems into synthetic cells\, programmed nanoparticles 
 that have an autonomous capacity to synthesize diagnostic and therapeuti
 c proteins inside the body\, and their promise for treating cancer and i
