DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nTropical cyclones (TC) are significant indicators o
f evolving climate dynamics. Two primary responses of interest are the c
yclone frequency and intensity. In this paper we propose a novel integra
ted modelling framework for simultaneous modelling of TC frequency acros
s several meteorological regions within Australasia. The key methodologi
cal insight is to model the second order properties of multiple integer
valued time series in frequency domain\, instead of parametric time doma
in models. We take a two-stage semi parametric approach where large scal
e environmental variation is modelled using generalized linear models wh
ile the stochastic variation — including spatial heterogeneity — is esti
mated using spectral analysis of time series\, under a hierarchical gene
rating model. Using longitudinal data analysis we are able to jointly mo
del periodicities in TC frequencies and their correlation with El Nino–S
outhern Oscillation (ENSO) cycles but also the spatial variation between
  regions
