DESCRIPTION:Paula Day\, Mini Moderns and Whitworth Curator Amy George wil
l be talking about the work of Lucienne Day\, particularly highlighting
her rarely seen wallpaper designs\, to coincide with the launch of Mini
Moderns’ reissue of some classic Lucienne Day wallpapers from the Whitwo
 rth collection.\n\nDoors open 6pm\nPanel discussion and Q&A 6:30pm-8pm\n
\nOne of the twentieth century’s most influential British textile design
ers\, Lucienne Day\, created visionary designs for textiles\, wallpapers
\, carpets and ceramics\, pioneering the post-war ‘Contemporary’ style.
Graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1940\, Lucienne’s breakthrou
gh came with Calyx – the standout textile at the 1951 Festival of Britai
n\, for which she also designed three wallpapers.\n\nThe Whitworth in Ma
nchester holds Lucienne Day’s personal collection of textiles and wallpa
pers\, and it is here that Mini Moderns began the painstaking process of
reproducing two of her original wallpaper designs. Mark and Keith ident
ified two patterns from the 1950s that they felt epitomised Lucienne Day
’s approach to wallpaper design: Provence (1951) and Syncopation (1958).
\n\nThis event is offered in partnership with Mini Moderns and Robin and
Lucienne Day Foundation.\n\nThe Grand Hall has level access. There will
  be a cashless bar.
