DESCRIPTION:From 2D materials to 3D architectures\nBuilding Functional Po
rous Networks from ‘White Graphene’\n\nDr Camille Petit from Imperial Co
llege London will deliver the second BP-ICAM webinar of 2017 on the topi
 c of 2D materials and 3D architectures.\n\nAbstract\n\nThe field of 2D m
aterials is one of the most exciting areas of materials science and engi
neering at the moment. While graphene is undoubtedly the most celebrated
2D material\, many others exist such as boron nitride nanosheets (aka ‘
 white graphene’)\, transition metal dichalcogenides\, phosphorene\, or m
etal oxide nanosheets. With this exciting field of science come a number
of technical challenges related to: the understanding and control of th
e materials properties\, their large-scale production or their integrati
on into 3D functional devices. \n\nThis webinar will present various typ
es of 2D materials and describe why they have attracted considerable att
ention from the academic and industrial communities. It will then focus
on making 3D structures from 2D materials as a way to develop multifunct
ional devices with tunable architectures. Specific applications of such
3D structures in the areas of molecular separations and catalysis will b
e discussed. The presentation will focus mostly on boron nitride materia
ls\, with specific examples taken from Dr Petit’s research group activit
 ies.\n
