asure and pain of border crossings’\n\nPublic Lecture\n\nCo-organised by
the Critical Global Politics Cluster and CIDRAL\n\nIn the spirit of the
rallying cry 'the personal is political – and international'\, this\n'i

a\nleading scholar in International Politics\, Leverhulme Visiting Profe
ssor\nV. Spike Peterson\, as she reflects on her entry into\, questionin
g of\, and moving\nbeyond Disciplinary International Politics (IP). Spur
red by witnessing global\ninequalities during years of border crossings
as a solo backpacker in Africa and\nAsia\, Spike chose a doctoral progra
m in IP\, but soon found richer insights in\ncritical social theory. Thu
s began three decades of boundary transgressing\nresearch examining the

ch\nilluminates\, including economics as a system of valorizations\, aff
ective dimensions\nof global householding\, the political economy of inf
ormalized work in relation to\nstructural inequalities and their corolla
ry insecurities\, and critical queering of\nmarriage\, citizenship and s
tates/nations. It is a personal engagement by a\n'seasoned' academic sha
ring her own journey and her current insights into how\nimportant the pe
rsonal/intimate is for both understanding and challenging global\ninequa
lities.\n\nThis 'in conversation' session will be followed by a receptio
n at Kro Bar to\nwhich all audience members are warmly invited.
