DESCRIPTION:Citylabs Lounge is a monthly networking event for clinicians\
 , academics and healthcare businesses located in the heart of Manchester
 ’s Innovation District. These events give a valuable opportunity for peo
 ple working in the healthcare and life science sector to engage with pro
 spective clients and customers\, as well as discussing some of the most 
 topical issues of the day.\n\nConnected Health Cities will share with al
 l the latest about their ground-breaking £20 million ‘Health North’ proj
 ect has been launched which will see four Northern city regions using da
 ta and technology in a revolutionary new way to help improve patient car
 e and ultimately save lives. Health North is a Government initiative ope
 rating across North England (15 million population) to generate innovati
 ons that can deliver more effective and efficient health and social care
 .\n\nThe foundations of Health North are to establish a social contract 
 with citizens that gives license to use health data for public good. The
  project will use new intelligence sources to understand pathways of car
 e across different provider organisations and target resources to needs 
 in much more agile and specific ways than at present. This was also sign
 ificantly accelerate business growth in the digital health sector in Nor
 th England.\n\nConnected Health Cities will be piloted in four city regi
 ons in its first phase\, with the common principles of:\n\n•	Engaging an
 d involving the public to build public trust and civic partnerships.\n•	
 Working with data custodians and existing infrastructure at local\, regi
 onal and national level to create linked-data critical masses for deeper
  understanding of health in defined populations.\n•	Developing at the he
 art of each city region an Ark – a secure\, combinatorial data analytics
  facility\, with state-of-the-art data management and analysis tools\, u
 nderpinned by research\, education and training.\n•	Bringing people from
  academia\, NHS and industry into deep collaboration in the Ark\, workin
 g in partnership to create new knowledge that will inform decision-makin
 g at levels.\n\nThe aim is to pilot data-intensive health service optimi
 sation methodology and understand how it can work efficiently in city re
 gions\, then to network those regions so they can ‘borrow strength’.\n\n
 About the speaker:\n\nJohn Ainsworth is Professor of Health Informatics 
 at The University of Manchester where he is also Deputy Director of the 
 Centre for Health Informatics. He is involved in numerous research proje
 cts\, but with one common aim - to use computing and information technol
 ogy to improve the health of the population. He is also Deputy Director 
 of the MRC Health eResearch Centre\, part of the Farr Institute of Healt
 h Informatics Research and is the Director of the Connected Health Citie
