DESCRIPTION:Structural Equation Models (SEM) amalgamate regression analys
is\, path analysis and factor analysis\, allowing for more richly detail
ed statistical models to be specified and compared to data than by using
these techniques individually.\n\nHistorically\, SEM models were confin
ed to the analysis of continuous observed data\, limiting their usefulne
ss in applied social research\, where many phenomena are inherently disc
rete or are measured only with coarse-grained instruments.\n\nAdvances i
n recent years have made SEM methods for categorical data available to a
pplied researchers.\n\nObjectives\n\nThis course aims to train quantitat
ive social scientists to use the Mplus programme in the application of s
tructural equation modelling techniques to non-continuous observed data.
\n\nThe course also aims to integrate approaches that assume latent dime
nsions of variation (eg factor analysis) with approaches that assume uno
bserved groups or categories (eg latent class analysis).\n
