DESCRIPTION:Join us for this research seminar\, part of the Number Theory
Seminar Series. \n\nAbstract: A celebrated theorem of Matomäki and Radz
iwi?? states that the partial sums of a bounded multiplicative function
exhibit cancellation in almost all short intervals unless the function i
s pretentious in a certain well-defined sense. I will discuss joint work
with Oleksiy Klurman and Alexander Mangerel where we prove an analogue
of this theorem that works for multiplicative functions in arithmetic pr
ogressions to very large moduli\, as well as a hybrid result that works
for short intervals and arithmetic progressions to large moduli simultan
eously. I will also present an application of this result to Linnik-type
  theorems for almost primes.
