DESCRIPTION:A number of large studies have recently been published which
focus on effective learning strategies and different ways to integrate t
hem into teaching. This session will explore a few research-supported le
arning strategies that have been shown to improve student learning and e
ngagement. It will take participants through each strategy and criticall
y explore how they might be integrated into their own practice. Finally\
, we will explore the potential for using the strategies to free up time
within lectures and seminars and allow students and staff to delve deep
er into materials\, conversations and topics. This will be an interactiv
e session and participants can expect to walk away with information and
materials they can use immediately.\n\nDelegates will leave the Pedagogy
with a good understanding of:\n\nBeing able to recognise a few current
research-supported learning strategies and where they may be used most e
ffectively.\n\nHow to consider a plan for exploring integration into you
r teaching.\n\nRecognising how such learning strategies can aid student
independence and ensure students take equal responsibility for their lea
rning.\n\nThe Academy for Education and Professional Development’s missi
on is “To ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of edu
cational programmes with student experience at their heart”. Academy eve
nts are open to all those who contribute to the development\, delivery a
nd management of FBMH undergraduate\, postgraduate and continuing profes
sional development programmes including staff from across the University
\, the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre and our NHS clinical ed
ucation partners. The Pedagogy Seminar Series provides a forum to discus
s research undertaken and/or pedagogy literature of interest.\n\nRefresh
