Social network research and health behavior change: examples from smoking cessation
Fiona Dobbie is a Research Fellow and PhD student in the School of Health Sciences and Sport, University of Stirling. Her main research area is the design and evaluation of complex health behaviour change interventions using social networks. She will present two of her current studies where social network research has been used in different ways. First, is a development study mapping the social networks of pregnant women to help them stop smoking during pregnancy and prevent post-partum relapse. Second, is an evaluation of a smoking prevention study (using name generation to identify influential peers) delivered in schools to young people aged 11-13.
