It is widely believed high speed railway could improve regional development by enlarging local labour, capital and land market, and enhancing passenger mobility efficiency. But there are still arguments on the distribution of benefits of high speed railway development. Some researchers even claim high speed railway may cause extra loss to some areas. This lecture presents a study which investigates empirical evidences for the current arguments about spatial and social equality of the impacts of high-speed railway on regional growth by looking at China case. The impacts on growth of population, jobs and local revenues will be mainly discussed.
