DESCRIPTION:We invite you to participate in our upcoming webinar on ‘How
could big environmental data shape the futures of forest landscapes?’.\n
\nThe proliferation of ‘big data’ opens up exciting opportunities from a
Global Development perspective\, but also poses new methodological and
ethical challenges. Building on this year’s World Bank World Development
report ‘Data for Better Lives’\, we aim to explore some of these potent
ials and risks.\n\nOur first session focuses on ‘big’ environmental data
\, such as that derived through satellite remote sensing. We ask how the
se data could help to understand and govern forested landscapes – and al
so what these data could mean for the livelihoods and wellbeing of the p
eople living in these landscapes.\n\nSchedule:\n15:30-15:40: Welcome and
introductions\n15:40-16:20: Panel Presentations:\n•	Johan Oldekop (Glob
al Development Institute\, University of Manchester)\n•	Keiko Nomura (Sp
ace Intelligence Ltd)\n•	Laura Sauls (Department of Geography\, Universi
ty of Sheffield)\n•	Polyanna Bispo (Department of Geography\, University
of Manchester)\n16:20-17:00: Questions and discussion: how could big en
vironmental data shape forest landscape futures?\n\nWhat better way to f
inish a working week? We hope to see you there!\n\nRegister for free: ht
