DESCRIPTION:'''Host:''' Biomedical Imaging Institute\n\n'''About the even
t:''' \n\nYou are warmly invited to the BII seminar\, ‘Whole body shape
descriptors of diabetes using DXA and principal components analysis’. Th
e speaker will be Professor John Shepherd. \n\n'''Abstract:''' \n\nAbst
ract: Weight is one of the most widely used measures of nutritional asse
ssment. The subdivision of the body to fat and lean compartments is also
available using a number of technologies such as bioimpedance\, deuteri
um dilution\, and densitometry. However\, subdivision of the total body
into two masses is a crude tool to understand to complex nature of energ
y expenditure\, resistance to disease\, and risk prediction for mortalit
y and metabolic diseases. In this talk\, I discuss advances in methods t
o assess subcompartments of body composition using clinical relevant and
field applicable tools including dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA)
and optical assessment of the body shape. I will present resent work re
lating body shape to diabetes status and optical body shape to the body
composition of young children. In addition\, the application of shape an
d appearance modeling will also be introduced as applicable to DXA and o
 ptical imaging.\n\n'''Registration:''' \n\nTo register\, please complete
  the on-line registration form: https://apps.mhs.manchester.ac.uk/survey
 s/TakeSurvey.aspx?PageNumber=1&SurveyID=n2LLlp6M&Preview=true\n\nI hope
you will be able to join us.\n
