SUMMARY:Manchester Village Stories Workshop
UID:{http://www.columbasystems.com/customers/uom/gpp/eventid/}u9v-kqhyhdd

DESCRIPTION:This interactive workshop explores emotion mapping as a metho
d for studying the connections between space and memory. \n\nWe do this
by reviewing an online project we have been working on over the past yea
r that focusses on Manchester’s Gay Village\; this being an area of the
city centre populated by bars and restaurants that have for many decades
catered to LGBTQ+ individuals. \n\nThe focus of this space has shifted
from being community orientated\, creating space for LGBTQ+ people in Ma
nchester to gather and organise\, to a popular tourist destination\, par
tially due to the popularity of TV shows such as ‘Queer as Folk’ in the
late 1990s. This shift has sparked debates over who this space is for an
d what the future of the space might be. \n\nIn our project\, we have us
ed emotion mapping as a way of exploring how individuals make sense of t
his historically significant and rapidly changing area of the city centr
 e. During the workshop\, we will share some emerging findings from our s
tudy\, and participants will be given the opportunity to engage with the
methods we have developed in response to COVID\, which meant that we we
re unable to carry out face-to-face research as was originally planned.
This workshop is aimed at anyone who has an interest in creative methods
to study connections between space and memory\, specifically emotion ma
pping. It will also be of interest to anyone who has an interest in LGBT
Q+ histories broadly speaking\, and/or the specific history of Mancheste
 r’s Village.
