DESCRIPTION:Mental health is a growing global concern. Mental health prob
lems represent a significant cost to companies stemming from reduced pro
ductivity\, absences\, and turnover. Despite a notable increase in publi
c attention given to mental health\, relatively little is known on how
employers can best support their employees’ mental health. Many individu
als prefer to conceal their challenge\, often out of fear of being disad
vantaged or treated poorly because of the stigmatization of mental healt
h problems.\n\nIn this presentation\, Prof Lapierre will provide an over
view of the limited scholarship addressing employees’ disclosure of a me
ntal health problem. He will also list a series of research questions th
at he believes should be addressed in order to offer organizations the m
eans of ensuring that their managers create a work climate where their e
mployees feel comfortable revealing their mental health problems\, and w
here such revelation actually leads to positive outcomes.
