DESCRIPTION:Professor Olivier Richon\, Head of the Photography programme
at the Royal College of Art\, will be giving a seminar that considers An
toine Watteau's painting 'The Indifferent' (1718) and relates the notion
of indifference to Kant's judgement of taste. It argues that there is a
n analogy between the Libertine's ethics of indifference regarding love
and passion\, and an aesthetics of taste based upon a disinterested judg
ement. An indifference to love as much as an indifference regarding an a
esthetic judgement would be the price to pay for the reward of pleasure.
