DESCRIPTION:Rob Gretton was a central figure in shaping the Manchester mu
 sic scene from the late 1970’s until his untimely death in 1999. Join ou
 r specialist speakers as we display a selection of materials\, many on s
 how for the first time\, from within the Rob Gretton archive. \n\nThis i
 mportant archive covers the period 1976 – 2004\, taking artifacts from R
 ob Gretton's early work in the UK Punk scene with bands The Panik and Sl
 aughter & The Dogs\, through to the development\, management and growth 
 of iconic Manchester bands Joy Division and New Order.  Also included is
  material from Factory Records (of which Gretton was a director) and the
  (in)famous nightclub The Haçienda.\n\nThe John Rylands Research Institu
 te and Library is home to the British Pop Archive\, a first-of -its-kind
  project that collects and preserves the archives and artefacts of UK po
 pular culture\, youth culture\, and counter-culture from the 1950s to th
