DESCRIPTION:Thomas Cubaud (Stony Brook) joins us for this virtual seminar
in the Physical Applied Mathematics Series\n\nThis seminar will be held
via Zoom. Please email alice.thompson@manchester.ac.uk if you require t
he meeting details.\n\nTitle: Multiphase flow regime transitions with hi
gh-viscosity fluids in microchannels\n\nAbstract: Microfluidic platform
s are useful for producing and tailoring the properties of multi-compone
nt materials\, yet our current ability to structure and process thick su
bstances is limited. In this talk\, I will discuss basic hydrodynamic de
stabilization processes between fluids having large differences in visco
sity and examine combinations of miscible and immiscible fluids flow con
figurations. Various aspects of high-viscosity fluids multiphase flows a
re investigated to better characterize relationships between fluid prope
rties and transport phenomena in confined microsystems. Focus is on the
formation and evolution of interfacial waves\, diffusive threads\, and d
roplets at vanishing interfacial tension to refine our understanding of
high-viscosity fluid dynamics and improve manipulations of thick materia
 ls at the small scale.
