DESCRIPTION:The demonstration project can be an effective organization to
  transform a sustainable energy prototype - for example in the field of 
 photovoltaics\, wind power or hydrogen - into a marketable product. A qu
 estion with regard to the demonstration project is how its effectiveness
  can be increased. This presentation answers this question by reviewing 
 the scientific literature on sustainable energy demonstration projects o
 f the past 38 years. It distinguishes and analyzes three types of demons
 tration projects: the technical-\, organizational-\, and market demonstr
 ation. The presentation proposes that the effectiveness of demonstration
  projects increases when sustainable energy prototypes are tested and im
 proved successively\, first in technical demonstrations\, then in organi
 zational demonstrations\, and finally in market demonstrations. The pres
 entation concludes with an agenda for future research\, concentrating on
  the development of sustainable energy prototypes into market ready prod
 ucts in a coherent program of demonstration projects.
