DESCRIPTION:This workshop\, jointly sponsored by the University of Manche
 ster philosophy department and the Mind Association\, considers the prac
 tical implications of metaphysics on policy\, legislation\, and practice
 \, and vice versa.\n\nMany of our societies’ legal verdicts and politica
 l judgements appear to appeal to metaphysical claims about the world and
  its contents. Likewise\, some of societies’ legal verdicts and politica
 l judgements appear to alter social reality in some sense. Our aim at th
 is workshop is to understand this complicated relationship between our m
 etaphysical commitments and our legislative\, judicial and political dec
 ision-making. To that end\, our speakers will be considering the ways in
  which these domains might alter or impact on one another and discussing
  specific examples where this has occurred. All attendees should expect 
 to come away with a better understanding of this relationship between po
