DESCRIPTION:Just how we phrase the results report of an empirical study m
 atters because the form and content of the report suggests what can and 
 cannot be done with the study results and what the study can and cannot 
 provide evidence for. This fact about results reports should not be surp
 rising since\, as JL Austin taught\, ‘We do things with words’. I will a
 rgue that getting the report right requires both serious understanding o
 f the empirical and theoretical work in the field and\, generally\, adop
 ting a clear theoretical perspective\, which then needs to be made expli
 cit. I illustrate with examples of education studies and probably medica
