DESCRIPTION:This event is part of CIDRAL's Winter 2016 programme\, 'Possi
 ble Worlds'.\n\nMolly Geidel (Lecturer in American Cultural History\, Un
 iversity of Manchester) will be speaking about preeminent Bolivian intel
 lectual Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui. Geidel has translated and collaborated
  with Rivera\, and will discuss Rivera’s evolving historical and theoret
 ical vision of decolonization\, and her attempts to enact that vision th
 rough activism and collaborative creative ventures.\n \nSilvia Rivera Cu
 sicanqui is a sociologist and activist from La Paz\, Bolivia. Her first 
 and best-known book\, Oppressed but Not Defeated\, traced the long histo
 ry of indigenous insurgency and autonomous movements in Bolivia. She is 
 a founding member and past director of el THOA (Andean Oral History Work
 shop)\, and a winner of the Guggenheim Fellowship and numerous other pri
 zes. An English translation of her selected and new essays is forthcomin
