UK manufacturing must digitise in order to grow.

Abstract:

Made Smarter is the UK national industrial digitalisation movement, driving productivity and growth across manufacturing industries. Backed by world-renowned businesses and working in partnership with the UK government, Made Smarter is putting the UK at the forefront of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The Made Smarter review identified four key recommendations which will increase manufacturing growth and UK productivity. They are: more ambitious leadership; greater innovation in developing new technologies; faster implementation and adoption of these technologies; and deeper understanding of the sector’s skills requirements.

The review identified that adoption of digital technologies was low across the SME manufacturing sector and several barriers are preventing higher adoption levels.

The Made Smarter adoption programme set up in January 2019, has been supporting manufacturers across the North West to help them adopt digital technology.

Donna Edwards, Made Smarter Adoption Programme, North West Director will share her insights about the challenges SME manufacturers face and how Made Smarter is helping overcome them. This session will provide an overview of the learnings from the North West adoption programme and the real-life benefits manufacturers are experiencing from digital technology such as data, AI, AR and VR, Additive Manufacturing, Robotics and IIOT.
