Tues 15 Oct: Shackleton’s Man Goes South
Tony White in conversation with Gregory Norminton.
A Science Museum Project, as part of the Manchester Literature Festival.
Acclaimed author Tony White was commissioned by the Science Museum to write a new work of fiction exploring the potential political, social and cultural impacts of climate change. The resulting novel, Shackleton’s Man Goes South, was inspired by a little known science fiction story written in 1911 by polar explorer and meteorologist George Clarke Simpson, and tells the story of Emily and Jenny, refugees who are fleeing to the safety of a post-melt Antarctica. Tony’s previous publications include the novel Foxy-T and non-fiction work Another Fool in the Balkans. He will discuss his bold and gripping new novel-cum-manifesto with Gregory Norminton, author and editor of Beacons: stories for our not so distant future.
