DESCRIPTION:This talk describes the impacts of recent global upheavals on
markets for\, and movements of\, trash\, in the three years since China
implemented its crackdown on the imports of plastic and paper scrap\, a
nd the 20 months so far of the pandemic. I address what we know about th
e impacts of Operation National Sword across governance scales\, and the
global governance response. Then I move onto the impacts of COVID 19\,
which have gutted Zero Waste policies in jurisdictions across the US and
elsewhere\, severely impacted waste worker livelihoods and health world
wide\, reshaped the quantity and make-up of medical waste\, and threaten
s to undermine global governance initiatives. What do these cases illust
rate about this overlooked but significant part of the global economy? W
hat are possible directions forward\, and what are some likely political
and real-world outcomes? \n\nRegister for this webinar: https://zoom.us
