3-4.30pm. Dr. Margaret Murray, the first person responsible for the Egyptology collection at Manchester Museum, spent time in Egypt recording the tombs located on the Saqqara plateau. Since 1990, the Saqqara Geophysical Survey Project (SGSP) has been creating an archaeological and sub-surface map of the same site, using a range of modern geophysical sensing techniques. Curator Campbell Price, now the director of the project, explains how Dr. Murray’s recording work provides a precedent for the SGSP’s mission, and discusses its methods and most recent results.
