The Technical Excellence at Manchester committee invites you to a panel discussion and luncheon in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Panel discussion: 12noon - 1pm - Michael Smith Lecture Theatre Luncheon: 1pm - 2.30pm - A.1018 at the back of the Michael Smith Café

Meet the panel:

Xiangli Zhong (she /her) is the senior technical specialist in Focused Ion Beam Systems in S&E and was previously an R&D engineer and failure analyst engineer in industry. She was awarded the prestigious Royal Microscopical Society Vice President’s Award from her excellence in microscopy. Wiley Publishing also awarded her achievement in being ‘top cited and making an immediate impact to your community’. She has also given a Women in Science talk at the International Society for Optics and Photonics.

Victoria Kelly (she/her) is a Risk and Compliance Officer in the FBMH Risk and Compliance Team. She has recently celebrated working for the University for 25 years. She started as a research technician and moved her way up to Technical Resource Manager in the Faculty of Life Sciences, during that time she won the Institute of Science and Technology John Johnson Award for outstanding achievement in the field of Bioinformatics. In 2013 she moved to work with the Health and Safety Team in the Faculty of Life Sciences and was awarded the NEBOSH Diploma best candidate award for the candidate recognised as the best student in the UK in 2016.

Dr Dharshika Pathiranage (she/her) is lab manager for the Prof Qing-Jun Meng lab in FBMH. Her group studies biological clocks in ageing and age-related diseases. Their more recent interest is the interface between circadian biology and extracellular matrix homeostasis in the context ageing and age-related disease, including osteoarthritis and breast cancer.

Dr Abby Ragazzon-Smith (she/her) is currently an Analytical Specialist working with ICP in the Physical and Elemental Characterisation team and has been working in various lab based technical roles for around 10 years. She is the Better World Showcase 2022 winner for Outstanding contribution to EDIA for her Trans Inclusion workshops.
