DESCRIPTION:Capacity development initiatives in global development aim to
empower individuals\, organisations\, and societies to achieve sustaina
ble progress by enhancing their skills and resources. However\, these in
itiatives often encounter persistent challenges that hinder their effect
iveness.\n\nThese challenges are deeply rooted in long-standing structur
al conditions that have remained largely unchanged. Common obstacles inc
 lude short-term perspectives\, limited contextual understanding\, issues
with measurement and accountability\, poor integration with broader sys
tems\, and difficulties with scaling and sustainability. Achieving a mea
ningful shift in capacity development requires innovative approaches tha
t address these underlying structural barriers.\n\nIn our upcoming Commu
nity of Practice meeting\, we are pleased to host Jaco Renken from Manch
ester’s Global Development Institute (GDI)\, who will guide a discussion
on these complex issues. We will explore the use of gamification to sup
port digital health policymakers in the World Health Organisation’s West
Pacific region—a case study that highlights innovative approaches in ca
pacity building aimed at overcoming structural challenges that limit the
impact of capacity development initiatives.\n\nAs always\, we welcome p
articipants from various career stages\, sectors\, and backgrounds. Whet
her you are an experienced alum focused on capacity development challeng
es or an undergraduate eager to learn more about working in the developm
ent sector\, we invite you to join us and share your insights and experi
ences.\n\nFor more on the purpose and benefits of our Community of Pract
