Presentation title: Self-harm and suicide among UK primary care patients: evidence from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD)
Dr Roger Webb, Reader in Mental Health Epidemiology in the Centre for Mental Health and Safety, will report on a number of CPRD-based studies that his team have conducted. Although NICE guidelines have stated in general terms the important role played by primary healthcare teams in monitoring and reducing self-harm and subsequent premature mortality risk, specific recommendations are lacking. This is because comparatively little is known about the clinical management of these risks among primary care patient populations. These studies have generated novel findings that are proving to be instructive in shaping future research and national policy agendas.
