DESCRIPTION:The first workshop of Empire and the Affective Archive series
  is entitled 'Experience\, Writing\, and Emotion in Times of Conflict'.\
 n\nEach of three CIDRAL-funded one-day workshops aims to develop thinkin
 g on the still little considered area of emotion-centred histories of th
 e imperial archive\, exploring how feeling\, sense\, and emotion are arc
 hived - both because of and despite colonial bureaucratic processes. The
  workshops are further bound together by a collective interest in the co
 lonial object – loot\, diplomatic gifts\, the bureaucratic file\, and th
 e museum collection – as a way to consider the emotional reactions and j
 ustifications afforded the practices that took objects away from their o
 riginating community and owners. The workshops will begin to consider ho
 w emotions played a central role in shaping imperial practice i.e.\, how
  feeling influenced actions. Beyond the historical context the workshops
  will also address the ongoing emotional effect archival indifference ha
 s today by asking the question\, how do we return emotion to an archive 
 through the ways it is researched\, re-narrated\, and acted upon?\n\nThi
 s event forms part of CIDRAL's 2023-2024 Archives series of events.\n\n
