DESCRIPTION:This week's pure postgrad seminar will be given by Thomas Hon
ey at 3pm in Frank Adams 1.\n\nAbstract:\nIn usual vector calculus we ca
n do things like take the divergence of a vector field and other things
like that. This all works nicely in Euclidean spaces however we want to
be able to do similar things on curved spaces and so on manifolds. How w
e do this is via the Hodge star. I’ll define the Hodge star in the conte
xt of vector spaces\, then generalise to the case of differential forms
on smooth manifolds\, which allows us to do things like take the diverge
nce of a vector field on a manifold amongst other things.
