Introduction to data, the command line and automating tasks for the digital humanities
Gerard Capes (Research IT, University of Manchester)
This workshop will provide a gentle introduction to working with data using the command line and beginning programming for digital humanities. The first part of the workshop will provide an introduction to the principles of working with data, jargon busting, foundation software skills, and regular expressions; we will then go onto working in the shell, and will conclude by writing a shell script to manipulate a number of files from EEBO-TCP.
There are no pre-requisites for this unit but please note that numbers are limited to 15, and all participants must bring their own laptop.
