 OVID-19 has presented the most challenging healthcare and societal chall
 enge in living memory.  The pandemic has coincided with extreme environm
 ental change leading to wild-fires\, flooding and marine extinctions. Th
 ere have even been concurrent\, man-made disasters such as the explosion
  that devastated Beirut. Yet we can now detect the critical seeds from w
 hich such catastrophes result.  This webinar will discuss how to then re
 engineer resilient systems using digitally-designed\, manufactured and m
 aintained structures capable of surviving the most extreme environments.
   We shall discuss particularly how users can access new national platfo
 rms and exascale computing to drive design and engineer a secure and res
 ilient world.\n\nProf. Neil Bourne is by training a physical scientist t
 hat has extended his expertise into the areas of risk\, occupational hea
 lth and workplace stress\, working within universities and government an
 d directing national and international Institutes in Health and Safety a
 nd National Facilities Science using X rays\, neutrons\, lasers and supe
 rcomputing. Neil is the inaugural UoM director of The Thomas Ashton Inst
 itute\, partnering the University of Manchester and the Health and Safet
 y Executive to deliver research\, learning and regulatory insights to en
 able a better working world. Further he leads the portal to the UK natio
 nal laboratories at Harwell and Daresbury supporting research within the
  University of Manchester and across the international network. Neil lea
 ds a team of physical scientists\, engineers\, medics\, psychologists\, 
 clinicians and risk analysts working to reduce accidents in work and gen
 erate impactful\, world-class research. He serves on panels assuring nat
 ional science and on industrial boards advising the Science Engineering 
 and Evidence Assurance Committee of the HSE board\, the Oil and Gas Tech
 nology Centre Academic Panel\, advisory committees on energetic material
 s and extreme events for the government and reinsurance sectors amongst 
 others.
