DESCRIPTION:We are proud to announce the latest in our STAR Lecture serie
 s\, a Physics lecture from Prof Jeff Forshaw for students in Year 12 and
  13. Jeff Forshaw is a particle physicist who has published over a hundr
 ed research papers and written several books\, including two best-sellin
 g science books co-authored with Professor Brian Cox. He recently won th
 e Institute of Physics’ Kelvin Medal for his work explaining science to 
 non-experts. In this lecture for A-level students\, Jeff will look at qu
 antum physics. Underpinning most of modern physics\; quantum physics des
 cribes a very strange and counter-intuitive world\, where tiny particles
  act as if they are in several places at the same time. This lecture wil
 l present the crazy rules that control the behaviour of a quantum partic
 le and show how they impact upon questions about the world around us\, i
 ncluding the recent discovery of the Higgs particle at CERN.
