DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Melissa Lee- Imperial College London \n\nTitle: Bas
 es for primitive permutation groups\n\nAbstract:\n\nLet $G \\leq \\mathr
 m{Sym}(\\Omega)$ be a primitive permutation group. A base for $G$ is a s
ubset $B \\subseteq \\Omega$ such that the pointwise stabiliser $G_B=1$.
In this talk\, after outlining the history and uses of bases\, I will d
escribe some recent work towards two prominent problems in the area - na
mely the solution to Pyber's conjecture and the classification of primit
ive groups with base size two.\n.........................\n\nTime: 2pm\n
\nPlace: FA1\n\nThere will be tea and biscuits at 1:45. All are welcome.
