DESCRIPTION:Sunday 28 February 2016 3pm\n\nCastello Duo\n\nJames Woodrow 
 - Baroque violin\nMattia Corda - Theorbo\n\n\nThe Castello Duo was forme
 d at the Royal Northern College of Music to explore 17th century violin 
 repertoire with continuo. Its repertoire focuses on the development of t
 he Italian Sonata\, the Austrian composers Biber and Schmelzer\, and Eng
 lish Baroque violin music. James and Mattia first performed together as 
 part of the RNCM’s production of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in pat
 ria. This led to a further exploration of the instrumental music of that
  time\, receiving guidance in this repertoire from Paula Chateauneuf. Re
 cent recitals have included Bradford Cathedral\, Sheffield Cathedral\, B
 ury Parish Church\, St Paul’s\, Withington and St Helen’s\, York. In 201
 6\, The Castello Duo will perform a lunchtime recital at St Martin-in-th
 e-Fields. As individuals\, they have played in period instrument ensembl
 es including The Hanover Band\, Charivari Agréable\, Fiori Musicali\, 18
 th Century Sinfonia and Britten-Pears Baroque Orchestra. For more inform
