DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to announce that the forth series of Bogdano
w Lectures in Holocaust Studies will be given by Prof. Jan Grabowski (Un
iversity of Ottawa).\n\nThe event is open to the public\; there is no ne
ed to book a place.\n\nLecture 2. The Polish 'Blue' Police and its Role
in the Implementation of the 'Final Solution'. \n\nAbstract: In Septemb
er 1939\, after four weeks of valiant but hopeless struggle against the
vastly superior German forces\, the Polish state collapsed. Nevertheless
\, some of its institutions\, such as the police\, had to be revived by
the occupiers. During the first months of occupation the ranks of the P
olish 'Blue' Police grew quickly reaching at its peak in 1943 more than
20\,000 people\, mostly pre-war police officers. The 'blue' police becam
e the only militarized and armed Polish force which the Germans allowed
to continue in occupied Poland. From the very beginning of the occupatio
n\, the Polish officers of the 'Blue' police were involved in the enforc
ement of anti-Jewish measures and regulations introduced by the Germans.
With time\, they became an important\, often indispensable\, element in
the German machine of extermination of the Jews.\n
