In this in-person talk, Dr Licheng Qian discusses consumption and nostalgia in contemporary China.
"Amidst the sweeping social transformations, a nostalgia market has emerged in contemporary China, evoking a yearning for the past, particularly the Mao era. Why does this nostalgiaemerge? What does it mean to people of different generations? How does consumption contribute to the remembering and forgetting of the past? Based on interviews and participant observation, this research explores the relationship between consumption, nostalgia, and amnesia in the context of reform-era China."
