DESCRIPTION:Eclectic late-night openings until 9pm every Thursday\, with 
 music\, performances\, talks and screenings.\n\nStart the weekend early 
 with our Thursday Lates – a series of sociable\, after work and late nig
 ht openings that are the perfect place to meet up with friends\, explore
  the gallery and enjoy a specially curated selection of talks\, performa
 nces\, film screenings\, live music and artist interventions. \n\n\n\nPo
 ets & Players’ events combine poetry with music\, promoting emerging and
  local voices and gifted musicians based in the North West alongside poe
 ts of high national reputation. Imaginative programming emphasises varie
 ty in both poetic and musical style.\n\nLuke Kennard is a poet and novel
 ist who lectures at the University of Birmingham. His first collection w
 on an Eric Gregory Award in 2005 and his second made him the youngest wr
 iter to be shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2007
 . His 5th\, Cain\, was published by Penned in the Margins in 2016. In 20
 14 he was named one of the Next Generation Poets by the Poetry Book Soci
 ety in their once per-decade list. His first novel\, The Transition\, wa
 s published by 4th Estate in 2017\n\nMatthew Welton lectures in creative
  writing at the University of Nottingham. His writing practice includes 
 collaborations with musicians\, visual artists and other writers. His in
 terest in poetry has to do with explorations of the sounds of words and 
 the possibilities of repetition. He has published three books with Carca
 net Press and has won an Eric Gregory Award\, the Jerwood-Aldeburgh Priz
 e\, and second place in the Arvon Poetry Competition.\nMichael Brailey i
 s a producer\, composer and vocalist currently studying at the Royal Nor
 thern College of Music. He is the curator of VIRTUALLYREALITY\, an event
  series which champions and commissions new electronic and acoustic musi
 c. His own music has been performed by the National Youth Orchestra of G
 reat Britain and The Aurora Orchestra in venues across the UK\, includin
 g the Royal Festival Hall\, Tate Modern\, Tate Britain\, Sage Gateshead\
 , Whitworth Art Gallery\, The Royal College of Music and Birmingham Symp
 hony Hall.
