Mon 25 Oct / 10am-2pm: finger knitting workshop This workshop is to teach the fun and easy technique of finger knitting. The knitted chains made by participants will then be knitted together to make a large knitted panel, representing the people of Manchester. This workshop will run alongside the exhibition 'Reach out and knit together 2010'. Drop-in, free, max 10 participants at any one time, all ages

Mon 25-Fri 29 Oct / 11-4pm: China technology Craft activities based on a Chinese technology theme, as on display in our China: Journey to the East exhibition - see some silk moths and have a go at paper weaving and printing. Drop-in, free, all ages

Mon 25 Oct / 1-3.30pm: Forensic science: a bog body mystery Can you solve the mystery? Become a forensic scientist using DNA analysis and archaeological evidence to unravel the puzzle of the mysterious find in Lindow Moss. Book on the day, free, 10+

Tues 26 Oct / 11-3pm: Making sense of your brain Brain scientists and psychologists will help you fool your sense with hands-on activities Drop-in, free, all ages

Tues 26 Oct / 1-2pm (under 8s) & 2.30-3.30pm (over 8s): Reptile and amphibian talk, with live animals Andrew Gray, The Manchester Museum's Curator of Herpetology, will give two highly interactive talks on the diversity of reptiles and amphibians found around the world. He will use a wide range of live animals from our Vivarium collection, including unusual snakes, lizards and frogs. During each talk you will be able to get up close to the animals and learn all about the many ways they have adapted to survive and contribute to the amazing diversity of life. Book on the day, free, under 8s /over 8s

Wed 27 Oct: 1-3pm: Medicine revealed Posters created by medical students (our doctors of the future) will display the medical conditions they have chosen to research. Drop-in, free, all ages

Wed 27 Oct / 1-3pm: Chinese archery and technology The Manchester Museum has an extensive collection of archery. Find out about the role of archery in China with an opportunity to get up close to some museum objects. Drop-in, free, all ages

Thurs 28 Oct / 1-3pm: Diversity of life workshop Explore the diversity of life on earth by working up close with real museum specimens and understand how that diversity came about. Book on the day, free, 10+

Thurs 28 and Fri 29 Oct / 1-4pm: China space activities Chinese craft activities based on a space theme. Learn the art of paper folding, paper cutting and Chinese calligraphy. Make a rocket or an airplane. In association with the Confucius Institute at The University of Manchester. Drop-in any time, free, all ages

Fri 29 Oct / 11am-12noon: Magic Carpet: toys and games Get comfy on our magic carpet and enjoy some stories and activities all about toys and games. This session with be BSL interpreted. Book on 0161 275 2648 (from 22 Oct), £1 per child, under 5s and their families/carers

Fri 29 Oct / 11-3pm: Learning from nature Biominetics is the science of taking ideas from nature and using these for engineering. Experts from the University of Bath will be on hand to explain more - with examples of biomimetic models such as unbreakable sunglasses, barbed tapes, flexible coupling without joints, and others. Sat 30 Oct / 1-3pm: Bee knitting Come along and knit or crochet a bee and learn more about the importance of our small but crucial friend that pollinates the plants to help feed our world. Expert knitters will 'bee' on hand to help novice knitters and a bee expert will be available. Drop-in, free, all ages

Sat 30 Oct / 11am-3pm: The Art of Science: Wriggling Rangoli Infectious diseases like parasitic worms trap communities into a cycle of poverty and ill-health. Come and see how science, worms, poverty and art have more in common than you may think! Help us create a unique and beautiful piece of traditional Indian art (Rangoli) to demonstrate the role that science can play in reducing world poverty. Drop-in, free, all ages
