DESCRIPTION:On the 700th anniversary of his death\, join our panel to exp
 lore the reception history of the medieval Italian poet Dante Alighieri 
 in Victorian Manchester.\n\nStephen Milner of the University of Manchest
 er explores the centrality of Manchester to the emergence of the ‘Cult o
 f Dante’ in nineteenth-century Britain and takes us behind the scenes at
  the John Rylands Library to reveal the role of our founder Enriqueta Ry
 lands as a Dante collector and first Vice-President of the Manchester Da
 nte Society.\n\nWe will be joined live from Rome by Simona Giordano who 
 has been working on the rediscovered archive of the Manchester Dante Soc
 iety and tells us about the fascinating programme of events they organis
 ed in 1921 to celebrate Dante’s 600th anniversary. \n\nManchester Art Ga
 llery Curator\, Hannah Williamson treats us to a behind the scenes look 
 at Dante-inspired collections including a gift made by an early member o
