DESCRIPTION:The luxury industry accounts for more than €1B worldwide and 
 covers a wide range of products including personal goods and complex pro
 ducts such as jets and yachts. Amongst the elements distinguishing \nlux
 ury from other traditional industrial sectors\, human involvement\, limi
 ted supply and the value recognition are often mentioned. Luxury is incr
 easingly expected to deliver experiential value while providing \nfuncti
 onality. Nevertheless\, there are challenges of executing product line m
 anagement\, customer service management\, and channel management. The de
 sign of the production and supply network configurations\, \nto this end
 \, plays a pivotal role. On the one hand\, today’s financial\, environme
 ntal\, economic and cultural crises challenge the luxury paradigm\; on t
 he other hand\, in this growingly complex business structure\, \ncustome
 rs demand for more\, and operations are growingly tailored to offer besp
 oke solutions to dominate the luxury market. Despite the fact that the s
 cientific community\, including sociologists\, marketing \nand branding 
 experts\, has shown interest in luxury management\, researchers in the f
 ield operations and supply chain management have not fully explored the 
 domain e.g. the very first paper conducted in \nthe field appeared only 
 less than a decade ago\, and relatedly the number of studies conducted i
 n luxury operations is still scarce. Thus\, this moment emerges as a res
 earch opportunity and this talk aims to \nfurther discuss why research i
 s actually needed for operational and value chain perspectives of luxury
 .  \n\nSpeaker Biography\n\nProfessor Alessandro Brun is an Associate Pr
 ofessor in the Department of Management\, Economics and Industrial Engin
 eering at Politecnico di Milano in Italy. His research specialism is lux
 ury supply chain \nmanagement and has over 150 publications in relevant
