 intings\, newspapers\, furniture\, clothing and packaging - into paintin
 gs\, installations and sculptures\, methodically exploring the relations

 teriality\, meaning and interpretation. For over forty years Toren's wor
 k has been recognised as much for its unique combination of conceptual r
 igour and material sensibility as for the wit and intelligent humour wit
 h which it draws attention to the often overlooked paraphernalia of ever
 yday existence. Born in Tel Aviv and trained as a painter's apprentice\,
  Toren has lived in London since the late 1960s. He has exhibited widely
