Dr Luke Uglow, Lecturer in Art History and Visual Studies at the University of Manchester, will be discussing his research on nineteenth-century connoisseurship and the historiography of the sixteenth-century Venetian painter Giorgione (d.1510). Analysing the work of Joseph Archer Crowe (1825-1896) and Giovanni Battista Cavalcaselle (1819-1897), the seminar will be based on primary source analysis and focused on issues of scientific method.
