Abstract of the lecture
Utilization of seismic barriers and seismic metamaterials for protection against hazardous impact of natural or technogenic vibrations is an extremely promising emerging technology to secure protection to buildings, structures and entire areas against earthquakes, high-speed transport induced vibrations, etc. It will bedemonstrated that addition of complimentary geometric features to a simple barrier shape is providing a possibility to significantly increase the resulting protection. An interesting and promising result is the existence of optimal (providing best possible protection) nontrivial barrier shapes. Identification of optimal geometric shapes for protective structures is performed utilizing generative algorithms (genetic algorithm, particle swarm optimization). Employment of generative algorithms is making it possible to evaluate optimal shape within limited number of computations
