DESCRIPTION:Our fifth seminar in our Austerity and Altered Life-Courses s
 eries focuses on austerity’s histories. Research on austerity across the
  social sciences and humanities reminds us that contemporary austerity i
 s rooted in longer term\, embedded and ongoing legacies of political and
  economic change\, including but not limited to neoliberalism\, colonial
 ism\, globalization and post-industrialism. These historical moorings ca
 n be problematic when approached as nostalgic and gone-by\, particularly
  as the realities of austerity cut so deeply and so unevenly. This sessi
 on presents new research that accounts for the memories\, reminders\, la
 ndscapes\, remains\, and intergenerational traumas related to austerity\
 , presently and prospectively. Our international panel will introduce th
 eir research on the histories of austerity\, and how these space-times a
 re relational and geographically embedded. We will also have time for sm
