 iversity of Manchester’s Firs Botanical Grounds is opening its doors – i
 nviting staff\, students\, alumni and the local community to visit its L
 iving Plant Collections and connect with nature in its tranquil gardens.
  \n\nA hidden oasis located in Fallowfield in what used to be Sir Joseph
  Whitworth's garden\, the site is one of the oldest continuously running
  research facilities in the University and has been a centre for plant-b
 ased research and teaching for over a century. It is home to the Firs En
 vironmental Research station and the University’s historic living plant 
 collection\, including greenhouses and outdoor spaces. \n\nThese free ev
 ents will provide an opportunity to engage with plants and nature\, the 
 history of the site\, its research and raise awareness of the plans to d
 evelop it as a botanical garden for the city of Manchester\, providing a
  hub to explore and help solve the pressing environmental issues of our 
 age. \n\nCome and explore our greenhouse biomes and engage with world le
 ading environmental research conducted at the University of Manchester. 
 Take a journey with one of our educational plant trails around the garde
 ns and wider Fallowfield campus. Or simply have a moment to enjoy this h
 idden quiet space in busy south Manchester.
