SUMMARY:Introduction to Stata
UID:{http://www.columbasystems.com/customers/uom/gpp/eventid/}z2h-k2c0s9n

DESCRIPTION:The course provides introductory training in Stata\, a statis
tical package increasingly used for social research data analysis which
has powerful data manipulation procedures and extensive and powerful sta
tistical capabilities.\n\nObjectives\n\nThe aim of the course is to fami
liarise participants with the basic features of Stata 14. On completing
the course\, participants will have covered the following through a comb
ination of presentation and practical sessions:\n\nThe STATA environment
: Opening and exploring files\, looking at labels\, editing and entering
  data.\nExploratory analysis: logging outputs\, producing tables\, subse
tting and descriptive statistics.\nData manipulation: computing new vari
ables\, recoding\, keeping and dropping\, saving commands in a .do file.
\nSTATA graphics\, help and support resources.\n On completion of the co
urse\, participants will have the necessary familiarity with Stata to mo
ve on to further Stata courses and/or continue learning themselves \n\nP
rerequisites\n\nNo previous experience with Stata or statistical analyse
s is required for the course\, as it will introduce participants to the
very basics of using Stata. However\, familiarity with\, and some experi
ence of\, handling datasets (e.g. Excel spreadsheets) would be beneficia
l for understanding the basics of data management and analysis in Stata.
\n\nSuitable for\n\nThe course is intended for anyone who hopes to use S
tata as a regular tool in their work. This can be to help manage data\,
especially large data sets\, and as a statistical analysis tool\, from b
asic analysis to complex modelling.\n\nThis course is therefore suitable
for anyone who hopes to use Stata as a day-to-day tool in their work.\n
\nThe course is designed for new users of survey data and does not presu
me any previous knowledge or experience working with quantitative method
 s. However\, Stata is especially useful for the analysis of complex surv
eys and longitudinal data analysis. Therefore\, individuals interested i
n analysing complex surveys or applying longitudinal data analysis in St
ata would find this particularly useful if they have no prior experience
  of Stata.
