DESCRIPTION:This seminar will introduce the essentials of machine learnin
g and its applications to intelligent system development for machine lea
rning dummies. It covers basic concepts and principles of machine learni
ng including multiple aspects such as what machine learning is\, what ma
chine learning can do\, what different learning paradigms are and how a
machine learning works for a real-world problem. Intuitive examples are
given to help audience understand how to apply proper machine learning t
echniques in developing intelligent systems. Finally\, I briefly introd
uce my Machine Learning and Perception (MLP) Lab at the University of Ma
nchester and review the research conducted in the MLP Lab via several e
xemplar projects.\n\nThis seminar is presented by Dr Ke Chen\, Senior Le
cturer at the University of Manchester. Dr. Ke Chen is an academic staf
f member of School of Computer Science at The University of Manchester.
He does research and teaching in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Sc
ience. His main research interests include machine learning\, pattern re
cognition\, machine perception\, computational cognitive systems and the
ir applications in intelligent system development. He directs the Lab of
Machine Learning and Perception affiliated with the Machine Learning an
d Optimization Research Group .\n\nHe has been with The University of Ma
nchester since 2003. He was with Peking University\, The University of B
irmingham\, The Ohio State University\, Kyushu Institute of Technology a
nd Tsinghua University after receiving a PhD in computer science in 1990
. He was a visiting senior researcher at Microsoft Research Asia and a v
isiting professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.\n\nBooking is
  essential via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/machine-learning-and-its-a
pplications-tickets-42626415757\n\nPlease note that due to the popularit
y of this event\, the seminar will now take place in room 2.219 Universi
ty Place. Additional places are being released as and when available to
