DESCRIPTION:The Whitworth Art Gallery (which is part of the University of
  Manchester) is running 2 different workshops in July specifically for M
 AP students. This will be a great opportunity to visit the Gallery\, exp
 lore some of its collection and take part in some activities. The worksh
 ops will also link in to some routes of study at the University. The rel
 ationship between light and dark is an eternal theme. Discover key works
  by great artists William Blake\, Anish Kapoor and JMW Turner who all to
 uch upon themes of light as a creative\, mysterious\, celestial and mons
 trous force. Consider how light is made and how it conveys and illuminat
 es remarkable narratives. A chance to unpick the meaning of art works an
 d delve deeper into symbolism\, whilst gaining an understanding of the p
 hysics behind light and its recurrent presence in theology. This worksho
 p aims to provide ways into understanding art and how it relates to cont
 emporary concerns at the time of creation through discussion. This event
  will suit students considering study of Physics\, Theology and Art Hist
 ory. The Manchester Access Programme (MAP) is a structured scheme for lo
 cal post-16 students who meet specific academic and background criteria.
  The aim of the programme is to support entry to The University of Manch

 n of a portfolio of work which demonstrates specific knowledge and skill
